About The Department:
Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2006 to run B.Sc. undergraduate course. Current intake capacity for the course is sixty students. We offer Biotechnology subject with Chemistry and any one option from Microbiology/Botany/Zoology. The Department has also run post-graduation courses during the year 2010-2014. The department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty with specialization in Molecular Biology, Plant Tissue Culture, Agricultural and Environmental Microbiology, Immunology and Bioinformatics. The aim of department is to foster knowledge in students pertaining to basic and advance in biotechnology field.
Bajaj College of Science, Wardha has been granted autonomous status from the academic year 2017-18 and NEP 2020 has been implemented from 2023-24. The curriculum under autonomy has been modified 20% by highly experienced subject experts in consultation with academicians, research scientists and industry personnel to meet the latest requirements of biotechnology industries. The faculty and the students of the department are involved in various co-curricular and extracurricular activities. It is also inculcating entrepreneurial skills in biotechnology graduates who would fulfill the role of job providers rather than jobseekers.
The department has well-furnished laboratories with all equipment’s to impart more hands-on training to the students and to carry out their projects. It has both college central library and departmental library where reputed International and National editions of books are made available to the students and faculties.
Alumni of the department occupy good positions in various industries like Meril Diagnostic Pvt.Ltd., Glenmark Pharmceutical Ltd., Wipro Ltd, TCS, Eclerx services; Cap Gemini India Pvt Ltd. Graduating students normally find good fellowships in higher education and pursue their career in reputed institutes like NISER, Bhubaneswar and IIT-Roorkee.

Highlights of the Syllabus under NEP:
- The syllabus ensures that the students graduating with Biotechnology as one of the subjects will have the academic standard required to pursue post-graduation in Biotechnology in India and abroad.
- Students graduating with Biotechnology will acquire skills that will be of tremendous value to them especially if they choose a career in Research, Academics, or Industry.
- The graduates with Biotechnology will be able to face any national competitive exams held for the graduates will be able to qualify examinations like JAM, GAT-B, etc.
- Syllabus contains important topics like Microbiology, Enzymology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, r-DNA Technology/ Genetic Engineering, Immunology, Virology, Fundamental of Biomolecules, Biophysical Technique, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction), Bioinformatics, Environmental Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology, Food Biotechnology, Tissues Culture, etc are included in UG syllabi.
- Along with the theory, skill-oriented experiments including some innovative projects will prepare the students to orient themselves to bridge the gap between science and technology.

Extracurricular Activities:
- Students of Department of Biotechnology presented skit on “Application of Biotechnology field for betterment of Human Life” on the occasion of “76th Independence Day- Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” on 15th August 2022. The objective of organizing this activity was to make junior college and first year students aware of the application of biotechnology in various fields for the betterment of human life and to motivated students for selection of biotechnology as a carrier option.
- Cultural Committee in association with Department of Biotechnology and Students Council, BCS, Wardha organized Online State Level “Paper Craft Making Competition” on 30th October 2023. Total 18 participants participated in competition from all over state. All the participants were awarded with e-certificate of participation. Participant’s photographs and videos of craft were evaluated by committee of jury. Winners of first, second and third prize were Mahamaya S. Shambaharkar and Moully S. Kant, Raghav Sule, and Mrunali N. Tarale respectively. All the winners were honored with cash prizes and certificates of appreciation.
Co-curricular Activities:
- Department of Biotechnology organized “Biotechnology Orientation Programme and Vaccine Awareness Poster Exhibition” to aware the students about Department of Biotechnology and enhance understanding regarding importance’s of vaccination. This event was inaugurated on 29th August 2022 in the UG Department of Biotechnology at the hands of Principal, Dr. Om Mahodava, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha under auspicious presence of Dr. P. V. Tekade, Head of Department Chemistry and Convener RICH Club, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha under able guidance of Convenor of the event Dr. Ulka Malode –Bidwai and Co-ordinator of the event Dr. Kunal A. Kale, Ms. Komal S. Dhumane and Ms. Kranti Bamnote.
- Department of Biotechnology organized “Biotechnology Open Day” to aware the students regarding Biotechnology as a career option and enhance understanding regarding cutting-edge experiments and equipment handling. This event was inaugurated on 17th September 2022 in the UG Department of Biotechnology at the hands of Officiating Principal, Dr. P. V. Tekade, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha under auspicious presence of Shri. S. E. Nakhale, Vice- Principal, Junior College, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha under able guidance of Convenor of the event Dr. Ulka Malode –Bidwai and Co-ordinator of the event Dr. Kunal A. Kale and Miss Komal S. Dhumane. Students of Biotechnology Department demonstrated ELISA, Thin Layer Chromatography, Plant Tissue Culture, etc. In all, 200 students and faculties from junior and senior college were benefited by this “Biotechnology open day”.
- Ms. Sanika Ingole represents Wardha Dist. for Youth-20 Consultation on Theme Peacebuilding and Reconciliation- Ushering in an era of on war: The Philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kuttumbakam at Symbiosis International University Campus Lavale, Pune on 10th to 11th March 2023.
- Students of XII Std. visited to Department of Biotechnology on 30th September 2023. During this visit students of Std. XII of junior college BCS, Wardha visited various laboratories and department within college as part of educational experience. Dr. U. A. Malode, Coordinator, Dept. of Biotechnology welcome students on the behalf of Dept. of Biotechnology and gave information about Biotechnology subject. Faculty Dr. K. A. Kale, Ms. K. S. Dhumane and Ms. P. B. Rode gave information about working principle and application of Incubator, Autoclave, Colorimeter, Distillation assembly, Water Bath, Deep Fridge, pH Meter, Laminar Air Flow and Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory and also demonstrated Gram Staining Technique etc. Total 45 students were benefited by this event.
- To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, the Department of Biotechnology organized a Shramadan-Swachhta campaign in the department on 2nd October 2023. On this occasion, the faculty and students cleaned the laboratory and corridor of Biotechnology Department.
- Ms. Khushi. P. Deogade, Ms. Siddhi R. Borikar, Mr. Vivek V. Jagtap and Ms. Mrunali N. Tarale participate in “Maharashtra Students Innovation Challenge- 2023” organized by Bajaj College of Science, Wardha (Autonomous College) in association with Maharashtra State Innovation Society and Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department, Wardha held on 9th October 2023.
- Students of XI and XII Std. visited to Department of Biotechnology on 25th October 2023. This event organized under the guidance of Prof. P. V. Tekade, Principal, BCS, Wardha. During this visit students of Std. XI and XII from Shri Krishnadas Jajoo Gramin Seva Mahavidhyalaya, Wardha visited various laboratories and department within college as part of educational experience. Dr. U. A. Malode, Coordinator, Dept. of Biotechnology welcome students on the behalf of Dept. of Biotechnology and gave information about Biotechnology subject. Faculty Dr. K. A. Kale, Ms. K. S. Dhumane and Ms. Pallavi Rode gave information about working principle and application of Incubator, Autoclave, Colorimeter, Magnetic Stirrer, Distillation assembly, Tissue Homogenizer, pH Meter, Laminar Air Flow and Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory and also demonstrated Gram Staining Technique etc. Total 42 students were benefited by this event.
- Department has organized workshop on “Career in Waste Management” on 27th October, 2023. The resource person for this workshop was Dr. Ashish Polkade, founder of Bharat Eco solutions and technologies, Pune and Mr. Suraj Bhagat a Certified Career Counsellor and Founder Rising India, Pune. Total 138 students of UG and PG was benefited by this workshop.
- Ms. Srushti Raut participated in Model Competition and selected among the 7 studnets representing college at District level Avishkar 2023-24 organized by Shree Shivaji Science College, Nagpur on 16th December 2023.
- Department has organized Faculty Development Programme (FDP) Through “Experiential Learning” on 17th January 2024 in the Gandhi Memorial Hall, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha. In all 57 teaching, non-teaching staff from Senior and Junior college are benefited. All the participant actively participated in various activities organised for staff. The main objective of FDP was to increase collaboration and cooperation between staff, to promote effective communication between staff, to assess leadership role within staff and to incorporate positive approaches and attitude towards new task within staff.
- Department has organized Guest Lecture on “Approaches of Molecular Diagnostics” on 20th January 2024 in the UG Department of Biotechnology. In all 48 students of B.Sc. Biotechnology and M.Sc. Microbiology and are benefited with this guest lecture. Guest lecture was focused on various diseases and molecular approaches used for its diagnosis.
- Department of Biotechnology in association with RICH Club BCS, Wardha, organised online quiz competition on general Biotechnology to celebrate “National Science Day -2024” on 28th February 2024. In all, 66 students from BSc part-I, II and III Biotechnology participated in this quiz competition. Objective of the quiz competition was to increased awareness about “National Science Day” and spread knowledge of subject Biotechnology among the students. Mr. Pradumya D. Kumbhare (B.Sc. Part III) and Ms. Riya P. Kadu (B.Sc. Part III) won the first prize, Second prize secured by Ms. Nubesha Pathan (B.Sc. Part III) and Ms. Aaliya Naaz Sayyad Ansar (B.Sc Part II). All the winners were honored with book of 75 Indian Scientists and certificates of appreciation.
- Shrawani Zade, Sawali Halule, Disha Giri, Akshita Chilwirwar, Atharv Bagadthey and Priyanshu Zade representing college at District level Avishkar Convention 2024-25 (Nagpur and Wardha District Selection Trials) Hosted by Shri Binzani City College, Nagpur on 19th December 2024.
- Department has organized workshop on “Biogas and Bioenergy” on 7th February 2025. The resource person for this workshop was Dr. Ashish Polkade, founder of Bharat Eco solutions and technologies, Pune and Mr. Suraj Bhagat Founder Rising India, Pune. Total 129 students of UG and PG was benefited by this workshop.
- Microbiology Biotechnology Society in association with IIC and RICH Club organized Science Skit Competition on the occasion of National Science Day 2025 by on 28th February 2025. Total 39 UG and PG students participated in this competition.
Industry-Academic Interaction:
- Department of Biotechnology has organized an “Industrial Tour” on 7th February 2024. During this tour students visited two prominent industries, Ankur Seeds Pvt. Ltd., Neri, Nagpur and Genext Genomic Pvt. Ltd., Nagpur and one research institute ICAR-CICR, Nagpur. Total 42 B.Sc. Part III students of Biotechnology and Microbiology benefited from the tour.
Social Outreach Programmes/ Workshops:
- The Department of Biotechnology, Bajaj College of Science, in association with Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha, Wardha, organised a “Workshop for ZP Teacher on Basic Techniques in Biotechnology Field” to make the Zila Parished teachers aware of the application of cutting-edge experiments in Biotechnology. This event was inaugurated on September 22nd, 2022 in the UG Department of Biotechnology at the hands of the Officiating Principal, Dr. P. V. Tekade, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha in the auspicious presence of Dr. V. Wanmali, Ex-Vice Principal, Junior College, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha under the able guidance of the convenor of the event, Dr. Ulka Malode-Bidwai, and Co-ordinator of the event, Dr. Kunal A. Kale, Miss Komal S. Dhumane. Students of the Biotechnology Department demonstrated and explained the applications of ELISA, Thin Layer Chromatography, Plant Tissue Culture, etc. The faculties and students of the Department of Biotechnology, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha, strove hard for the success of the events.
Recent Achievements of Students:
- Ms. Kiran Tajane participated and won Third Prize in “Rangoli Competition” organized by Cultural Committee, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha to commemorate 76th Independence Day- “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav on 15th August 2022.
- Ms. Nubesha Pathan won Second Prize in “Online Poster Competition” under Microbiology Week “MICROMANIA” organized by Department of Microbiology in association with Research Innovation Curriculum Hour (RICH) Club, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha on 23rd August 2022.
- Ms. Khushboo Nimje and Ms. Dipali Awachat won First Prize and Pradunya Kumbhare won Second Prize in “Quiz Competition: The Right Guess (UG)” under Microbiology Week “MICROMANIA” organized by Department of Microbiology in association with Research Innovation Curriculum Hour (RICH) Club, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha on 24th August 2022.
- Ms. Khushi Deogade, Ms. Siddhi Borikar, Ms. Sakshi Warwatkar and Ms. Thritee Bhagat won First Prize in “Fermented Food Competition and Expo” under Microbiology Week “MICROMANIA” organized by Department of Microbiology in association with Research Innovation Curriculum Hour (RICH) Club, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha on 25th August 2022.
- Ms. Sampada P. Udepurkar qualified inter college final screening test of Rainbow 2022 and won Second Prize in “Classical Dance Competition” organized by Student Development Cell, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur on 27th to 28th September 2022 at Yashwant Mahavidyalaya, Wardha.
- Ms. Khushi Deogade won 1st Prize and Mr. Atharva Bhingare won 2nd Prize in Model Competition on occasion of Birth Anniversary of Dr. Har Gobind Khorana organized by Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha on 19th January 2023. For this competition total 8 students were participated from Department of Biotechnology, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha.
- Mr. Aniket Vitalkar, Ms. Simran Thool and Ms. Khushi Deogade Participated in Poster Presentation on District and University Level Selection Trial of Avishkar Research Convention 2022-23 organized by Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur on 16th to 17th December 2022 at Dadasaheb Balpande College of Pharmacy, Dham Mandir, Besa, Nagpur.

- Ms. Siddhi Borikar won 2nd Prize in State Level Golden Jubilee Research and Innovation Festival, Shodhotsav- 2023 for Level III in Category of Commerce and Management organized by Brijlal Biyani Science College, Amravati on 16th February 2023. For this competition total 3 students were participated from Department of Biotechnology, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha.

- Ms. Sanika Ingole won 1st Prize and Ms. Simran Thool won Consolation Prize in Y20 District Level Poster Competition on Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation and 21st Century Skills organized by Bajaj College of Science, Wardha on 27th February 2023. For this competition total 8 students were participated from the Department.
- Ms. Janhavi Salodkar won third prize in “Rangoli Competition” organized by Cultural Committee in association with RICH Club BCS, Wardha to celebrate International Women’s Day 2024 on 8th March 2024.
- Ms. Aaliya Naaz Sayyad Ansar won second Prize and Ms. Sakshi Nimje won third prize in “Mehendi Competition” organized by Cultural Committee in association with CWSS BCS, Wardha to celebrate International Women’s Day 2024 on 9th March 2024.
- Mr. Priyanshu Zade won the first prize and Ms. Sanika Ingole won the second prize in the Poster Competition in the B.Sc. category during the One-Day State-Level Seminar on Recent Trends in Biological and Chemical Sciences, organized by Shiksha Mandal’s Bajaj College of Science, Wardha on 31st January 2025. A total of 17 students from the Department of Biotechnology participated in the Poster Competition, and 3 students attended the seminar.
Departmental Society:
Microbiology- Biotechnology Society:
The purpose of the formation of society by students is to provide platform for them to explore their ideas related with subject. The society organizes various activities like guest lectures, poster competition, educational tours, Science Skit Competition etc. Students arrange guest lecturers of eminent personalities. This society helps to develop the leadership qualities among the student. Students participated in all these activities and come up with flying colours. Prof. Incharge of this society is Dr. M.G. Ingale.
- Inauguration of Microbiology Biotechnology Society Student Unit for the session 2022-23 and guest lecture
Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology. Bajaj College of Science, (Autonomous) Wardha, in collaboration with Microbiologist Society India (MSI) has Inaugurated Microbiology- Biotechnology Society Student Unit (via Zoom Platform) on 1st February 2022 by the hands of Dr. A. M. Deshmukh, President, Microbiologist Society India in auspicious presences of Dr. Om Mahodaya, Principal Bajaj College of Science, Dr. Sanjeev Patankar. State President -Maharashtra and Goa Region, Microbiologist Society India, faculties of departments and students. Dr. Rahul Bhoyar, initiated the lecture with brief introduction of his projects in CSIR, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, New Delhi, and then focused on importance of next generation sequencing. Total 95 students from B.Sc., M.Sc. and faculties of Microbiology and Biotechnology department benefited by guest lecture.
- Inauguration of Microbiology Biotechnology Society Student Unit for the session 2023-24 and guest lecture
Microbiology and Biotechnology society was established for the session 2023-24. This society was inaugurated at the hands of Dr. S. S. Pathak, Professor and Head of Department of Pharmacology JNMC, Wardha on 26th September 2023. Prof. P. V. Tekade, Principal, BCS, Wardha addressed the students on this occasion, on importance of formation of such society and also encourage students to organize various events under this umbrella. On this occasion Dr. S. S. Pathak delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Genomics: The basis of Biology and Medicine’. All the faculties from Micro-Biotech Society, Botanical Society and Zoological Society were present for the event. Total 77 Students were benefited by this lecture.
- Inauguration of Microbiology Biotechnology Society Student Unit for the session 2024-25 and guest lecture
The inauguration of the Micro-Biotech Society for the session 2024-25 took place on Wednesday, 9th October 2024, at 11:00 AM in Gandhi Memorial Hall. The event was chaired by the Principal, Prof. P.V. Tekade. Dr. Sanvidhan G. Suke, Assistant Professor Department of Biotechnology Priyadarshini College of Engineering, Nagpur, with over 20 years of experience in research and teaching, delivered a lecture on “Novel Therapeutic Approach and Antibiotic Potency Quantification by Validated Bioassay.” He provided valuable insights into new therapeutic methods and the role of bioassays in evaluating antibiotics. Total 81 students attended the event and benefited from the lecture.
