About the Department :
The Department of Languages has its inception with the establishment of the college in the year 1962, since then it has been consistently providing the students of undergraduate classes a base for English Communication, thereby enhancing their written and spoken aspect as well. Besides Compulsory English, the department offers three options as a second language to its students, i.e.
- Marathi,
- Hindi and
- Supplementary English.
Apart from regular curriculum, all the teachers from the department render their valuable guidance to the students participating in various quiz, debate, elocution, essay or poster competitions organized by various colleges or universities round the country.
Highlights of the Department :
The department of Languages runs a digital language lab, wherein a special software has been installed as students’ console and teacher’s console to improve the accents and overall spoken aspect of the students. Here, students can listen to their own accent, pronunciations through a headphone and rectify their mistakes while speaking.
This helps them a lot while confronting campus recruitment drives conducted by various National and Multinational companies visiting the college.
Every year, the result of the department is excellent, viz.
The result of Compulsory English is around 90%
The result of Supplementary English is around 95%
The result of Marathi is above 90%
The result of Hindi is above 95%

This is a compulsory subject for every student whosoever gets admitted to B. Sc. I year.

There is no choice of other subject to this one as it’s a compulsory subject.

Activities :
The department conducts word games, vocabulary based games, puzzles individually for each section, in the lectures of tutorials.
12/09/2015, the department had conducted a vocabulary based “ English Word Power Quiz “ for all the students of all 14 batches of B. Sc. I.
Academic Achievement of the Students :
The students belonging to the department score excellent marks in the college examinations and the university exams. every year. Around 10% students pass with the distinction grade whereas about 40% students pass with the first division.
