Department of Physics

About the Department:

The Department of Physics was founded in 1962 under the leadership of Dr. D.S. Supe and has since evolved into one of the best-equipped centers for undergraduate studies in this region. The department’s primary objective is to foster a deep appreciation for the subject among students and ignite their curiosity regarding the social and economic impacts of Physics in society. The department has four distinct laboratories, including a dark room equipped with over 100 experimental setups, providing students with ample opportunities for hands-on learning and research and advanced instrumentation facilities like X-ray diffraction, Digital Ultrasonic Pulse Echo Velocity Meter, G.M. Counter  & Impedance analyzer. Every year it caters for around 300 UG students for regular curricular and co-curricular activities.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SYLLABUS UNDER NEP 2020

The syllabus has been upgraded and aligned with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). It covers fundamental areas of physics such as mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, thermodynamics and statistical physics, quantum mechanics, relativity, nuclear physics, nanoscience, solid-state physics, and solid-state electronics. In addition to the core subjects, students also engage in vocational skill courses (VSC) and skill enhancement courses (SES) as part of the curriculum. These courses aim to facilitate hands-on learning experiences, foster logical thinking, nurture creativity and innovation skills among students, and prepare them to bridge the gap between science, technology, and industries.

The post graduate course in physics is being started from the session 2025-26. The syllabus for M. Sc. Physics is meticulously planned and developed in accordance with NEP 2020. The syllabus aims to promote comprehensive understanding of the subject through specialized core subjects like quantum mechanics, nuclear physics, electronics, mathematical physics, and elective courses like astronomy and astrophysics, energy devices, experimental techniques, material science, nano science and nanotechnology. Well-developed research and instrumentation facilities and on job training (OJT) will add value to the learning experience and over all skill development of students.

Astro Club:

The Astro Club is an interdisciplinary hobby club started in 2017. It takes care of sky observations, regular events from the world of astronomy. It has a separate students’ cell that used to conduct regular seminars, workshops, guest lecturers etc. Students also conduct some skill-oriented workshops to fabricate telescopes under the expert guidance.

12-Aug-2023 “Incubation Opportunities for Teachers and Faculties: Early-Stage Entrepreneurs” On 12th August 2023, a seminar on “Incubation Opportunities for Teachers and Faculties: Early-Stage Entrepreneurs” was held at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Bajaj College of Science, Wardha.

28-Jan-2024 National Photo Essay Competition in Physics National Photo Essay Competition in Physics (NPECP), organized by Bajaj College of Science in collaboration with Sub Regional Council 08E Vidarbha region of Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). The event served as a platform for undergraduate and postgraduate students from 16 different universities across the country to showcase their creativity, scientific knowledge, and artistic skills through captivating photo essays. Over 50 submissions were received, out of which 37 participants were selected for evaluation based on the competition’s rules and regulations. The competition, held in conjunction with National Science Day, aimed to celebrate the fusion of art and science and provide recognition to talented students in the field of physics. The event witnessed a virtual gathering where the top 10 photo essays were unveiled, and winners were announced on 24th March 2024.

28-Feb-2024 Quiz Competition On the occasion of National Science Day 2024, Shiksha Mandal’s Bajaj College of Science, Wardha (Autonomous) organized an Online Quiz Competition on the theme “Effect of Science on Human Life.” The event took place on 28th February 2024 at 11 a.m. and was conducted virtually through Quilgo software. Dr. S.H. Bagade, Head of Department of Physics was the mentor of this event.
A total of 117 students registered for the event out of which 100 students
enthusiastically participated in the online quiz competition. The competition was keenly contested, showcasing the students’ knowledge and understanding of the impact of science on human life. After a competitive round of quizzing, four top-performing students were recognized for their exceptional knowledge and awarded with book prizes as a token of appreciation.
28-Feb-2024 Workshop on Science behing Musical Instruments The workshop on the science behind musical instruments provided a fascinating exploration of the physical principles that underpin the creation of music. Participants were immersed in the world of acoustics, vibration, and resonance, gaining a deeper understanding of how different instruments produce sound. Through engaging demonstrations and interactive sessions, attendees had the opportunity to experience firsthand the scientific concepts at play in the realm of music, fostering a newfound appreciation for the intricate relationship between science and art.
14-Mar-2024 Workshop on “Entrepreneurship and Innovation as career opportunities” On 14th March 2024, a workshop on Entrepreneurship and innovation as career oportunities was hel at Bajaj college of science, Wardha for the students of PG departments. Mr. Lalji Kannoujiya from IFAS Academy, Pune had invited for the workshop. The workshop was aimed to give insite of entrepreneurship and innovation as career.

26-Jul-2024 Guest Session on “Early Stage Entreprenuership” Guest Session on “Early Stage Entreprenuership” by Mr. Rupesh Ramgade,  Center Coordinator, IBFC, Wardha. Students were given information  about Entreprenuership, how to develop a startup and where tosecure the funds acdcapital for it.
09-Aug-2024 Mobile Science Exhibition by Nehru Science center 1. Students got an opportunity to witness experiments based on concepts in Physics and other phenomenon which enriched their understanding of the subject 2. Some students volunteered to explain the experiments which developed their confidence,management and leadership skills.
27-Aug-2024 “Innovative / Start up  Idea Competition” “Innovative / Start up  Idea Competition” organised by Department of Physics in association with IIC. 1. Students were given information about innovation/startup. 2. Students prepared some Models, Apps displayed and explained it to the audience. 3. Activity was helpful to develop curiosity, innovative thinking and entreprenuership skill  among the students.
29-30 Nov 2024 INNERVATE-2024 A Two Day Workshop on the topic”Digitizing Science Experiments Using EXPEYES and Advanced Tools” inassociation with the National Academy of Sciences in India (NASI), Nagpur Chapter. Upgrading the soft skills related to science experiments was the main motive Behind this event.
